Mantle House in the Community
From maintaining an active Facebook page to reaching out to individual families in need, the team at the Mantle House Mission is passionate about both the organization’s mission and the community in which they live.
We encourage you to visit one of our Events throughout the year. Among our events in 2016, we were blessed to have a dinner with local vocalists and musicians at the Turkeytown Volunteer Fire Hall, Free Lunch get togethers for friends and neighbors, garage sales, local flood relief efforts, speaking engagements, and more.
Whether you are a customer, visitor or resident our Mantle House ladies give with all their hearts.
Turning Young Lives Around
At the Mantle House Mission, all of our efforts ultimately focus us back toward our mission, changing the lives of young homeless men and women.
Mantle House itself is a part of the effort and more than merely shelter. Those living with us are expected to properly maintain the residence and their living space and to find a job in the area. Drug and alcohol testing are conducted and there is zero tolerance for drug use.
“We want them to live independently. We want to give them the resources they need and teach them how to use those resources. We want them to be successful,” explains Marci Elsbury, the South Huntingdon Township Resident who is the driving force behind the establishment of The Mantle House Mission.
Goals include a training center, computer and library rooms, and an in-house supervisor to help provide Mantle House’s young residence with guidance. West Newton provides an ideal setting for a transitional home, with recreational opportunities such as hiking and biking along the Great Allegheny Passage and fishing in the Youghiogheny River.
