Turning Young Lives Around
At the Mantle House Mission, all of our efforts ultimately focus us back toward our mission, changing the lives of young homeless women.
Mantle House itself is a part of the effort and more than merely shelter. Those living with us are expected to properly maintain the residence and their living space and to find a job in the area. Drug and alcohol testing are conducted and there is zero tolerance for drug use.
“We want them to live independently. We want to give them the resources they need and teach them how to use those resources. We want them to be successful,” explains Marci Elsbury, the South Huntingdon Township Resident who is the driving force behind the establishment of The Mantle House Mission.
Goals include a training center, computer and library rooms, and an in-house supervisor to help provide Mantle House’s young residence with guidance. West Newton provides an ideal setting for a transitional home, with recreational opportunities such as hiking and biking along the Great Allegheny Passage and fishing in the Youghiogheny River.
